Our new office/workshop

1/29/2018

Comments

Those clients and friends that have visited us in person since our move to Nanny Cay last summer have witnessed the somewhat cramped conditions in which we've been working (clients from the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 seasons will know what we’re talking about, too).

Mid-2013, B&G purchased a used 20’ shipping container, on a trailer, and moved it to the Sheppard’s Marina parking lot at Soper’s Hole. One third of the space was converted to an office, and the remaining two thirds served as a workshop and storeroom for tools, equipment and spare parts. That container was moved to Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour for the summer season of 2014, where it was the team’s base of operations for maintenance and projects done aboard the majority of the managed fleet, which was stored there. The container traveled back to Soper’s Hole for the 2014/2015 season, but lived in the Frenchman’s Cay Marina parking lot, instead, as the Sheppard family had begun construction on their property and could no longer afford B&G the space.

The container traveled to Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour again for the 2015 summer season, but did not make the return trip to Tortola at the end of the season. That summer, B&G took on the lease for Frenchman’s Cay Marina, which included an office/workshop space, so bringing the container back to Soper’s Hole was not necessary. The container remained at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour for the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons, serving as home base for team members needing to occasionally do work for clients on Virgin Gorda during the regular season, and seeing regular use once again for the 2016 summer season.

Starting in 2016, for various reasons, more and more of B&G’s clients chose to keep their boats at Nanny Cay Boat Yard, rather than at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, for the summer seasons. This is one of the many reasons that led B&G to revamp its business model in 2017, moving from Soper’s Hole to Nanny Cay and offering more mobile support to its clients, as opposed to a rigid dockage and management package available at only one location.

The container made the move to Nanny Cay, too, and has served the team well (especially because it weathered Irma beautifully!). However, because our team has grown and genuinely needs more space in order to continue providing our clients with the highest level of service possible, we’re getting a new, bigger, better container! We’ve partnered with Container Tech in Atlanta, GA to kit out a used 40’ container that will have more than one window and door! Can you tell that we’re excited? We expect that our new container will arrive toward the end of March, so stay tuned and we’ll let you know when it is here and in place!
