New Year's Eve
Bon appétit! We have such a great team at B&G / Carib Blue that we’ve decided to celebrate them with a monthly Staff Spotlight profile, so our client community can get to know them a bit better! This month’s staff in the spotlight is Tamara! ![]() Originally from St. Catherine’s, Jamaica, Tamara moved to the BVI in 2006; her mother, who now lives in the United Kingdom, had been living in the BVI since the mid-‘90s, so Tamara knew what she was getting herself into with the move. Despite living and working in Road Town initially, Tamara spent a considerable amount of time at Nanny Cay, where she first met Todd. Coming very highly recommended by her other employers, Todd first hired Tamara to help him re-finish the teak decks on Veritas, Todd’s 57’ Abeking & Rasmussen classic ketch. Todd and Tamara made a great team from the start, and Tamara was his first hire when he purchased B&G in 2013. Tamara still has substantial ties to Jamaica, and travels home when she can. The most important tie? Her daughter Komoy, who is currently in her penultimate year at university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Komoy is hoping to attend MIT to pursue her master’s degree as her next step, and Tamara could not be more proud.
If you have seen Tamara on the docks as she’s working, you’ll have noticed that she usually has her headphones in – she’s not listening to the latest tunes, but to sports pod casts! Tamara loves just about all sports, with basketball being her favorite, and the New England Patriots being her favorite team across them all. If you’re a fan, you should absolutely let Tamara know – she’s very knowledgeable and insightful. Fun Q&A sesh with Tamara: Q. What was it that first made you feel part of the B&G team? A. The team just feels like a family, and has from the beginning. Q. What is 1 dish you absolutely, positively will not eat? A. [Tamara is pretty adventurous, and actually could not come up with an answer on this one!] Q. What is your dream car? A. I don’t drive here [we don’t blame you!], but I like my car to be practical, so maybe a Honda Integra. Q. If you were trapped on desert island, what 3 things would you want to have with you? A. My phone (with internet included!), a good magazine, and my best friend (so I don’t get bored). Q. Do you have a nickname at work? A. Not really. Q. If you haven’t already, would you ever skydive? A. Yes, but it depends where. I would only do it somewhere fun, which has an amazing view. Q. If you could splurge on 1 must-have item, and the price did not matter, what would it be? A. I love to travel, so definitely a trip around the world. Q. Which superhuman power would you like to have? A. I would want to control others with my mind. Q. What is your favorite thing about working at B&G? A. I like the environment and the people, and Todd as a boss is great – he’s always willing to teach me new things, and his attitude makes you want to work with him. Thanks, Tamara! Be sure to check out next month’s profile for a chance to get to know Anand! Managing the docks where our charter and privately managed boats live during the winter season means that we very often have a few extra spaces available and open for boats just passing through Soper’s Hole, a.k.a. transient boats. Soper’s Hole is a transient boater’s paradise: not only is there easy access to fuel (diesel and gas) and water, but Customs and Immigration are located just across the harbor, there is a medium-sized supermarket on site perfect for a quick mid-trip re-provisioning and there is even a laundromat. Has your chef threatened to quit? Check out D’Best Cup for amazing, diner-style breakfast and their large specialty coffee menu; Pusser’s for a pub-fare lunch and their world-famous Painkillers; L’Amore for an afternoon snack of gelato; Fish N’ Lime for incredible fresh fish specials; and, Scaramouche for an Aperol spritz while you lounge in their bar area, or partake in an exquisite three-course Italian feast in their fine dining restaurant upstairs. Is your crew growing restless aboard? In addition to the many eating and drinking options, you can browse the apparel collections at Arawak, Latitude 18, Pussers and the other smaller shops dotted around, or go see Island Surf & Sail to grab a stand up paddle board or kayak to enjoy for the afternoon, or for the remainder of your trip. ![]() To streamline the booking process for our transient clients, this season we have partnered with Dockwa, an online slip booking site featuring marinas throughout the US and the Caribbean. You can effortlessly search their website or app (available for both iPhone and Google Play) to confirm whether there is a marina available where you plan to go next, and once you set up your account with your boat’s details you can easily make dockage requests with just the click of a button. It’s fantastically simple! Are you ready to book your next dockage stay with us? Just click here. Dockwa are very active on FaceBook and have their own blog (where we’ve just been featured!); be sure to check them out! |
